Educator
As an educator, I strive to forge a sense of community and inclusion for all students and to cultivate an atmosphere in which they feel encouraged to express themselves, both in the lecture hall and on the podium. Working primarily within the field of contemporary music, I view the learning process as one of joyful exploration, a main goal of which is the discovery of different musical, cultural and personal languages. My background as a composer has greatly informed my educational work, resulting in an approach that concentrates on unpacking the structural and technical intricacies of a piece, leading to a substantive understanding of a work from both a functional and theoretical level.
As a conductor, I have extensive experience leading workshops and reading sessions for young composers with groups such as Ensemble Contrechamps (CH), Ensemble Proton Bern (CH), Orkest de Ereprijs (NL) and Nieuw Ensemble (NL), as well as part of international festivals such as Aldeburgh Festival (UK), Guadeamus Muziekweek (NL) and DAM Festival (Kosovo). Since 2021 I have served as regular guest conductor and lecturer for the Ensemble Academy of the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, a masters specialization for students interested in gaining knowledge and experience in the field of contemporary music. I have also given lectures in instrumentation and score preparation at ArtEZ University of the Arts (NL) and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
Below are some video examples of my work in higher education.
